The former chief prosecutor for the Pentagon’s Office of Military Commissions says the Defense Department denied him a medal as punishment for speaking out against the war tribunals system, The Washington Post reported May 29.

Col. Morris Davis, who will retire effective Nov. 1, served as chief prosecutor for the military commissions before resigning in protest in October over what he saw as a process that had become unfair. In early May, he testified at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the defense of Salim Ahmed Hamdan — Osama bin Laden’s driver and bodyguard — arguing that Hamdan could not get a fair trial because of command influence.

Davis told the Post that Pentagon officials notified him that he did “not serve honorably” and would be denied a medal for his time as chief prosecutor. Davis also said he fears further retribution before his retirement, the Post reported.
