Why not a VA access card for disabled Vets ?.
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 10:37 AM by DustyJoe
As one of the many disabled Vets living 4 hours or more travel time from a VA facility, I would welcome a card to have access to more timely health care availability, private, public or Govt.

1. Simply because the VA wants to save money by not treating you.
My sister-in-law's father died of a service-connected condition while waiting to be admitted to a VA hospital for treatment. His admission had been delayed several times for various reasons for over a year total time.
He was "due to be admitted shortly" before his death.

Next?

2. Am so Sorry
All the more reason for the card for treatment outside of the system.

3. my grandfather was a totally disabled vet
he received fairly good care up until he died which was in the late 1950s. He lived not too far from where he received treatment however.

Where I now live, the nearest VA Medical Center is an 8 hr. drive away. I know they have some sort of service to drive people to/from this facility but still, if you are in need of some serious care very soon the local clinic here is not satisfactory.

IMO the VA needs a lot of help! A card would be one small thing they could do, but I agree with the above poster, they don't want to spend any more money then they have to sadly.

Hang in there!
