CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A "treasure" uncovered on Okinawa 40 years ago this month continues to provide for the military and local communities.

Last year, Island Treasures Marine Gift Shop on Camp Foster donated $108,000 to charities and other organizations, said Anne Losack, the shop’s operations manager.

The gift shop plans to celebrate its 40 years with a Marine Officers’ Spouses’ Club Charity Auction at the Butler Officers Club on Plaza Housing on Sept. 27. The auction will feature furniture and gift items from Hong Kong, she said.

The club hopes to raise about $21,000 through the auction that will be given to American Women’s Welfare Association, Losack said.

Island Treasures profits support homes for the elderly and disabled, provide scholarships for military dependents and help send base sports teams to Far East championships in the Pacific.
