Trial for disbarred JAG postponed again

The trial of Col. Michael D. Murphy, the senior Air Force lawyer who was discovered to have been disbarred for more than 20 years, has been delayed for the second time, according to a spokeswoman for the Air Force District of Washington.

The trial was originally scheduled for July 21, was delayed until Sept. 15 and has now been postponed to an undecided date.

Murphy, former commander of the Air Force Legal Operations Agency, faces seven counts of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, one count of failure to obey a general regulation and three counts of larceny greater than $500.

He could face 41 years in prison if convicted and sentenced to the maximum for each count, although judges often combine punishments for separate counts.

Murphy has elected to be tried by court members — the military equivalent of a jury — and to defer entry of pleas until trial.
