Back to school at Belvoir after 13 hospitalized

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — Classes have resumed at Fort Belvoir Elementary School days after 11 students and two adults broke out in a rash and were sent to the hospital.

After the outbreak Friday, Army and Fairfax County emergency workers locked down the school. Classrooms and grounds were searched for hazardous materials and workers scrubbed the building over the weekend.

School and Army officials reported Monday when classes resumed that no chemical, biological or radiological materials that might have caused the outbreak were found.

Fort Belvoir students had been outside playing kickball Friday afternoon before they returned to class complaining of itching.
