Misrepresenting enemy is wrong; using airmen effectively is right
By Robert F. Dorr

Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley gave a speech Aug. 26 that gave me pause.

He supported the unpopular policy of using airmen as if they were soldiers, based on the reasoning, in part, that we are fighting two wars because terrorists hate Western freedoms.

He even implied that terrorists hate us because of America’s diversity. That’s just wrong and, I fear, confuses the mission.

So long as we resist employing airpower in its true role as the decisive force in warfare, Osama bin Laden and his coterie can remain hunkered down in Pakistani tribal territories and stay safe from any kind of serious attack.

The Air Force is in a mood for change, and the time has come to fight as if we want to win.
