Sailors on Individual Augmentee or Global War on Terrorism Support Assignments now know exactly which Navy Command is responsible for them and their families while they’re gone.

IA Gram 08-03, released as NavAdmin message 293/08 on Oct. 17, spells out the details.

“This is the first time we’ve actually assigned and specified for all types of IAs who has parent command responsibilities and especially for family support and what those responsibilities are,” said Lt. Dave Luckett, spokesman for Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va. “Previously, the levels of support varied from commands from significant to nil — this at least establishes a minimum level of support sailors and their families can expect.”

Effective immediately:

• Commands with sailors on temporary additional duty on IA assignments retain parent command responsibility for those sailors and their families.
