Recruiting off to strong start in fiscal 2009

Following what commanders have called the most successful recruiting year since 2004, the Army kicked off fiscal year 2009 by exceeding its recruiting goals in October, the Defense Department announced Monday.

The active Army recruited 5,324 people, 101 percent of the monthly goal of 5,275. The Army National Guard netted 6,487 new soldiers, 116 percent of the goal of 5,600, while the Army Reserve reported 3,049 new recruits, 110 percent of the goal of 2,770.

Fiscal year 2009 began Oct. 1.

1. When there are no other jobs around
and you are just barely getting by, the military looks like a good career choice, even if you die.

But did you know we pay our soldier about 50% of what Canada pays its soldiers?
