The FOX network has apologized after it aired a locker room ceremony in which the Minnesota Vikings football team presented a Marine poolee, the son of the team’s head coach, with a game ball.
The problem? A partially nude player on the Vikings could be seen in the background.
The network issued an apology after tight end Visanthe Shiancoe was shown naked on television while Vikings owner Zygi Wilf presented a game ball to coach Brad Childress’ son, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Andrew Childress, 19, is joining the Corps on Monday, the newspaper said.
“It obviously was an oversight on our part and we apologize,” said Dan Bell, Fox Sports’ vice president of communications.
The gaffe had become something of an Internet sensation by Monday morning. Google reported that “Vikings locker room” was the 14th most popular search on its search engine during the last 24 hours, and at least a dozen popular sports blogs featured the images — censored and uncensored — prominently.
