Autopsy: Pregnant Bragg spc. was strangled

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — An autopsy report says a pregnant soldier found dead in a Fayetteville motel room in June likely died of asphyxiation.

The report says Megan Touma’s body was in a state of moderate to advanced decomposition when found on June 21 fully submerged in a bathtub in her motel room. The 23-year-old Touma, a dental specialist, had arrived at Fort Bragg on June 12 from a base in Germany.

Autopsy findings also show hemorrhage consistent with blunt force injury, which could mean Touma was strangled.

Fayetteville police officials say Sgt. Edgar Patino, 27, of Hope Mills, was the father of Touma’s unborn baby. He has been charged with first-degree murder. Investigators said Touma and the married Patino began a relationship while both were stationed in Germany.
