Divers Searching For Missing Bragg Soldier
Divers Searching For Missing Bragg Soldier

McALLEN, Texas — Divers searched a South Texas bay on Saturday for a soldier who authorities believe drove his car off a fishing pier a day earlier.

Pfc. Jamie Wagner Sengvanhpheng, 21, has been missing since last being seen hanging out with friends Christmas night. His 2004 Acura was found submerged in Copano Bay, about 30 miles north of Corpus Christi.

Sengvanhpheng had returned to his hometown of Rockport a few days earlier from his station at Fort Bragg, N.C., his girlfriend, Morgan Hedgcoth, told The Associated Press. She said family members told her divers found the driver’s side window down in the car, giving her hope that he may have escaped.

Hedgcoth said Sengvanhpheng had recently talked expectantly about getting a scholarship to start college, though he had never complained to her about his time in the Army.

“I don’t know why he would do this when so many good things were coming his way,” she said.
