Maine Contractor to Admit He Bilked the Army

PORTLAND, Maine — A defense contractor from Maine has reportedly agreed to plead guilty to federal charges arising from a bribery scheme that bilked the Army out of at least $2.5 million.

The Portland Press Herald quotes a U.S. District Court document as saying Maurice Subilia of Kennebunk is to appear at a Feb. 2 hearing at the Portland court. His attorney, Toby Dilworth, declined to comment.

Subilia, the 64-year-old former president of Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford, is accused of orchestrating the conspiracy that involved two officials at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, Ala.

Prosecutors say Subilia and the two officials, Michael Cantrell and Douglas Ennis, agreed to split and personally use money earmarked for missile defense contracts. Cantrell and Ennis have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.
