Hawaii Stryker brigade makes way home

HONOLULU — Hawaii’s Stryker brigade is starting to return home.

After a 14-month deployment in Iraq, the first 100 soldiers are returning to Hawaii on Tuesday.

The soldiers left for Iraq with their 330 Stryker combat vehicles in 2007. During their second tour in the war-torn region, 11 members of the brigade were killed.

Brigade leader Col. Todd McCaffrey says the soldiers saw a remarkable drop in violence during their deployment. He says it’s now common in the Baghdad area to go for days without a single violent act.
