T-34 with 2 aboard missing off Texas coast

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard has mobilized a search for the crew of a Navy T-34 training aircraft.

Coast Guard officials say an air traffic controller at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station lost contact with the plane’s two-member crew about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. The single-engine trainer was last reported near Port Lavaca, about 75 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.

The Coast Guard air station in Corpus Christi has dispatched a helicopter and jet to perform an aerial search. Coast Guard boats also have been sent to the area from Port Aransas and Port O’Connor.
