Iowa guardsmen put on alert for Iraq duty

... The soldiers on alert are from the 833rd Engineer Company, headquartered in Ottumwa.

There are 120 soldiers who could be affected ...

The 833rd Engineer Company is responsible for identifying and reducing minefields and explosives, removing physical obstacles and blockades, and performing infantry missions when ordered.

The 833rd Engineer Company was last deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2004 to December 2005.
