Marine dies in parachute training at Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Marine officials say a decorated Marine has been killed in a parachute training exercise at Camp Pendleton.

A Marine Corps statement says Cpl. Ryan L. Pape died Thursday night from injuries sustained during a low-level static line jump.

The 23-year-old reconnaissance Marine from Minnesota enlisted in 2005. His personal service awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

Details of the accident were not released. The incident is under investigation.
