How to help Vets?
I posted this to General Politics but got only one result. Can anyone here help?

Last night I received an email from someone who heads up a support group, of sorts, for wounded Vets. She had just learned of the GAO report on Vet care and the disparity between care for regular service versus Reserves and Guards. She was shocked. I responded that she, and others receiving her newsletter, should become better informed on the matter and contact their Senators and Representatives demanding real support for our Vets. She replied:

"I emailed all my elected peoples in DC last nite. I think if people with the support the troops bumper stickers KNEW, they’d be as appalled as the rest of us. This is an issue that deserves to see the light of day EVERYDAY. What do you know is being done about this? Any active bills in the congress? What can we do?"

Please help me provide references on the following topics:
Cuts in funding, federal budget Vet increase not proportional to number of new Vets. Lack of equity for Reserves and Guards and their families.

1. I hope some of the sites I listed help you
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 11:56 AM by BOSSHOG
www.fra.org - Fleet Reserve Association for Naval Retirees
www.dav.org - Disabled American Veterans
www.va.gov
www.vrna.go - Vets resources network
www.tricare.osd.mil - the military medical program for service members and their families; also applies to retirees
www.vetjobs.com - job search assistance for vets

I hope these will help. I am retired Navy and try to keep up with most issues relevant to my status. Thank you for your efforts.

2. Stop sending them off to fight needless wars
:)

I'm a disabled vet and I agree with what BossHog posted. I'm a life member of DAV and they are most excellent in assisting vets. PVA (Paralyzed Veterans of America) is another organization to which I have a life membership. They are also good, but DAV is better.

Thanks for your concern!
