Adm. Jonathan Greenert gets Robert Gates’s nod as next chief of U.S. Navy

Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert, a longtime submarine officer, has gotten the nod to become the new leader of the Navy, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced Thursday.

Gates told reporters he would recommend that President Obama nominate Greenert to become chief of naval operations, replacing Adm. Gary Roughead, who is scheduled to retire when his four-year term ends in September ...
