Navy only PX that sells gas from Venezuela

Navy Cmdr. Brian Berryman is a physician serving at Naval Support Activity Millington, Tenn. On base, he has nearly everything he needs — a commissary, an exchange, recreational facilities and even a gas station.

But he’ll drive miles out of his way to fuel up somewhere else.

The reason? The Navy Exchange gas station sells Citgo, and Berryman is boycotting the Venezuelan corporation, the profits from which support the government of socialist President Hugo Chavez.

“It amazes me that we are doing business with a government so critical of the United States. I refuse to buy at NEX,” Berryman said Wednesday.

The Naval Exchange Service Command has 53 convenience stores that sell Citgo brand gasoline. On Aug. 23, the Marine Corps revealed that 18 of its 34 Marine Corps Exchange stations sell Citgo, via a contract with the Navy.

Neither the Army and Air Force Exchange System, nor the Coast Guard Exchange System, does business with Citgo. This appeals to sailors, like Berryman, who think the Navy should break off their contracts with the company.

The telescreens tell us that Venezuela ( a democracy) BAD - Saudi Arabia (dictatorship) GOOD.
