AWOL Baumholder captain still missing, believed safe

BAUMHOLDER, Germany — Capt. Robert Przybylski, the Baumholder-based officer who has been absent without leave since Oct. 10, remains missing but does not appear to be in any danger, authorities reported Wednesday.

“He is still AWOL, but believed to be safe,” said Maj. Rich Spiegel, a V Corps spokesman. “His absence remains under investigation.”

Army officials remain tight-lipped about the circumstances involving the captain’s disappearance.

“I don’t want to speculate on anything that would hurt the investigation,” Spiegel said.

Spiegel declined to say whether Przybylski remains in Germany or is traveling alone or whether investigators have had direct communication with him.

Przybylski, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, was recently named a company commander within the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division. The brigade is expected to deploy to Iraq in March.
