The families of two soldiers killed in Iraq will be honored during separate ceremonies today, according to an Army news release. The ceremonies were organized by the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey and Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno, commander of Multi-National Corps-Iraq, will present gold medals to the children of a chief warrant officer killed in Baghdad.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 John W. Engeman was killed May 14, 2006. Casey was set to present a medal to Nicole Engeman, the soldier’s 22-year-old daughter, in a morning ceremony at the Pentagon, while Odierno was to present a medal to 1st Lt. Patrick Engeman, who is serving in Iraq with 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment.

John Engeman, 45, served in the Army for more than 28 years. He deployed to Iraq as part of a transition team to train and advise Iraqi security forces. Assigned to 1st Battalion, 312th Regiment and 30th Enhanced Separate Brigade, he was killed when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb, exploded and flipped over.

Later today, Casey, along with other service chiefs, will participate in a “Time of Remembrance Tribute” ceremony by presenting a gold medal to the children of Sgt. 1st Class Randall Lamberson, who was killed in Iraq in April 2006. Lamberson's children, Kelsi, 10, and Even, 11, of Springfield, Mo., will participate in the ceremony at 5 p.m. in Room 325 of the Russell Senate Office Building.

Lamberson was assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. He died in Balad of injuries sustained when a makeshift bomb exploded near his Humvee during combat operations in Ramadi.
