Ex-recruiters asked to return as supervisors
Ex-recruiters asked to return as supervisors

The Air Force Recruiting Service wants you back. To beef up the experience level of the recruiting force, the service is sending e-mails to about 700 enlisted airmen who worked as recruiters in the past three years. The note encourages former recruiters to consider coming back to the Recruiting Service to fill supervisory positions, what the service calls Tier 2 and 3 positions, said Chief Master Sgt. John Osborne, superintendent of the plans and resources division at Recruiting Service headquarters.

Overall, there are about 1,000 Tier 2 and 3 positions. Tier 2 positions are typically held by airmen in the ranks of staff sergeant to master sergeant who earlier served a tour as Tier 1 production recruiters. Tier 3 positions are set aside for airmen in the ranks of technical sergeant to chief master sergeant with prior experience.

The long-term goal of the Recruiting Service is to staff all of the Tier 2 and 3 positions with volunteers, Osborne said.

The e-mail will go out to all active-duty airmen with prior recruiting experience who carry the recruiting special identifier, 8R000, as their secondary Air Force Specialty Code, Osborne said.

Airmen who ask to come back will have their applications and recent enlisted performance reports reviewed by the service.

The positions filled by the returned airmen will depend on their recruiting experience, rank and recommendations, Osborne said. Primarily, the airmen will fill support positions such as those at military entrance processing stations or working as squadron trainers. A “select few” will be assigned as officer accession recruiters or enlisted/officer accession flight chiefs, Osborne said.
