Captain America makes posthumous appearance in special AAFES comics

Pacific edition, Saturday, November 10, 2007

SEOUL — Fans of the late Captain America may be in for a treat Saturday as the fifth installment of a military-exclusive comic book hits Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores worldwide.

“The Spirit of America” will feature what AAFES officials said is the first appearance of Captain America since Marvel Comics creators killed him off in March during the aftermath of the crossover series “Civil War.”

An AAFES press release said demand is expected to be high, but Marvel Comics says fans should not to get too excited about the reappearance of “classic Captain America.”

He is still dead.

“This is a Custom Comic from Marvel, and is separate from the death of Captain America story- line that was featured earlier this year in the Civil War series,” Marvel Comics spokeswoman Ann Hinshaw said in an e-mail Thursday.

Officials anticipate the latest AAFES/Marvel Comics edition will be a collector’s item and have limited distribution of one copy per customer. Copies are free.
