Navy to move 2,300 billets to detailing

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Navy is ready to begin the second phase of its plan to move individual augmentee duty into the detailing, or job-assignment, process.

The plan is meant to allow sailors to take on individual augmentee duty when they are at the end of their current assignment and talking to their detailers about their next permanent change of station move instead of being plucked out of their current assignment.

Individual augmentees are sailors who are sent to supplement other services. Their tasks include electronic warfare, medical support and detainee operations.

Currently, about 10,000 individual augmentees are serving in the U.S. Central Command theater of operations, according to the Navy.

Individual augmentee billets are known as global war on terrorism support assignments, or GSAs.

The first phase of the Navy’s plan called for moving about 1,300 GSAs into the detailing process — roughly 27 percent of individual augmentee requirements, a Navy Administrative message (NAVADMIN) says.
