Missing soldier turns herself in at Fort Lewis

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. — Missing Army Sgt. Julie Stendahl has returned to Fort Lewis, Wash.

Stendahl was supposed to be deployed to Iraq at the end of October, but she went missing on the Oregon Coast.

Lincoln City police say she turned herself in Monday morning.

Stendahl had been listed as AWOL. Her car was found in a public parking lot in Lincoln City last week containing some state park receipts. Police said at the time they considered the circumstances suspicious.

The 32-year-old Stendahl was assigned to the 62nd Medical Brigade.

Army officials say she’ll be returned to her unit, and disciplinary action will be up to her commanding officer.
