News that a bomb-sniffing dog hit pay dirt on a on a car entering Nellis Air Force Base turned out to be a false alarm, according to a base spokeswoman.

“It was the glove compartment that was in question,” said Capt. Jessica Martin, a public affairs official at the Nevada base. “After a search ... it was deemed that there was no threat.”

An alert was posted at 11:15 a.m. local time after a dog sensed something in a car at an entrance gate to the base. The driver was questioned while the car was searched, but no explosives were found.

Martin could not say what triggered the dog’s reaction.
