Some Navy aerospace engineering officers are now eligible for aviation career continuation bonuses, but Navy astronauts will no longer be able to pocket the bonuses, which pay up to $125,000 to pilots and flight officers who extend their active service obligations.

But the amounts paid for continuation bonuses, which are intended to keep aviation officers on active duty through department head, sea duty and command billets, was unchanged from last year, according to NavAdmin 343/07.

The bonus will be $25,000 per year for pilots and flight officers who agree to serve on active duty for five additional years and $15,000 per year for pilots and flight officers who agree to remain on active duty from one to three additional years, according to Cmdr. Tim Barkdoll, aviation officer community manager for Navy Personnel Command.

Officers extending for five years are eligible for a lump-sum payment of $62,500 following successful aviation department head screening.

Applications must be received by Sept. 26 of next year.
