12 things you must know for the new year
Posted : Friday Jan 4, 2008 6:05:44 EST

As airmen in 2008, you are facing a lot more changes than you may realize. You’ll be fireproof and well-dressed; in the war zone longer or out of the Air Force altogether; flying the service’s altered biggest bomber or dropping its newest, smallest bomb.

Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley has plans for you this year, some of which he has yet to unveil, so listen up.

Here’s a look at the 12 most important things to pay attention to:

The new service dress uniform, modeled on the World War II-era outfit worn by Air Force pioneer Hap Arnold, will start popping up at some bases in 2008.

The uniform, recognizable by its signature buckle across the jacket, will make its first appearances in late January at four locations: Randolph and Lackland Air Force Bases, Texas, the bases around Colorado Springs, Colo., and Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Ala. Roughly 400 male and female airmen with various body shapes will try on the uniform for a “fit test.” In the summer, a similar number of airmen will participate in a “wear test” in which they’ll get a loaner uniform for a longer period of time, said Capt. Jonathan Pellum of the 648th Aeronautical Systems Squadron.

uhc comment: It's a good read to see where these guys are going. I notice they did not mention F-22s or F-35s at all.
