check in thread- who is for al gore '08?
and what are you going to do to convince him to run, and to help him get elected?

me- hopefully, i am going to run as delegate for gore. i will talk to my neighborhood democratic party tomorrow at their regular meeting. i worked hard for my alderman, know his people, and think that i will get their support.
i am also getting ready to start a blog. there are some right wing smear sites in my neighborhood, so i am trying to do a little truthout. al will definitely be a part of that.
i sent an email to the guy are gorehub.com, and he loved the gd thread. i am now on the email list, and promise to post things here that come in. that is not an excuse for you not to do the same, tho.

so, check in, show us what you got.

ps- donate. i did the other day, even before talking to dylan malone. gopt a couple of things in the way of the bank account right this minute, i will donate more soon.

3. You've got me thinking seriously about being
a delagate. Not sure if I can find enough dems out here in the 14th to sign... but it would be a great thing to be able to do.

SharonRB posted in another thread here that the several Draft Gore orgs will be combining under one umbrella - that there will be announcement later this week.

I am for Gore. I want my country back and I think he's the one to lead us through what must be done to get that to happen. His first 8 years will only be a start but we need to start NOW to get him in office.

Thanks for the ra-ra. I think we all need it this weekend!

and so is my husband, Admiral Loinpresser. In fact, the Admiral is one of the volunteer coordinators at AlGore.org

fwiw, evlbstrd, the Admiral and I went to Iowa in April to help out a couple of Iowa Gore groups that were starting up. The Admiral and I went back up last month and attended a couple of more meetings. We handed out buttons and bumperstickers.

12. Went to local dem meeting for my county yesterday
small town and mostly conservative but we are trying. I took a list of names of other democrats to call and get more volunteers for 08 elections. I just joined yesterday and I am new to the town but as I get to know people and get more involved locally I will promote him.

I have already told everyone I met yesterday he is the one I want to be president. No one told me back who they are for.

But I was surprised by energy of everyone wanting to impeach Bush and Cheney and mad at congress for not doing so....mostly because the dems here are very conservative dems.

15. Checking in.
I don't know very many people in this city, but I guess by the end of the year that will change. I just wish that our primaries weren't last. I feel like we don't even get a partial say in the nominee. I've got my hands full in my neighborhood as I live in Big Pharmaville and there are not many Dem's here. BUT, we did get a few Dem's elected last election so there is always hope!

Figured I'd better pop in over here. I don't really know what I can do. I have depression and social anxiety, which pretty much rules out dealing with people. Hopefully signing petitions and such will help some.

18. I'm really for Dennis Kucinich but Al Gore would be my choice over those

in the "top tier." I didn't like Gore much when he was running, but I voted for him, and in the aftermath of the election he showed himself to be a gentleman. He wasn't constantly on television claiming he'd won but he wasn't folding like "I've Got Your Back" Kerry, either. He was trying to get what should have been automatic, a recount in Florida.

I hope if Gore gets in the race that he will support single payer health care. I am concerned that he will continue to support NAFTA and the WTO and thus outsourcing will continue. I hope he's not so closely allied to "free trade" these days, but is still committed to a Social Security "lockbox."

So sell me on him and tell me if there's any clear signs that he wants to run this year.

22. he was in favor of single payer as veep, iirc
he knew back then that health insurance is an incredible drag on entrepreneurship, and just plain makes sense from every angle. maybe he couched it with "correct" framing, but he got it way back then.
he was also the driving force, again, iirc, behind labor and environmental restraints on nafta.

as far as signs, all i can do is repeat what the draft gore folks to the 20 or so of us that met up at kos- he has not completely made up his mind, but-
he is pissed off that none of the other dems have signed on to his 10 point plan to save the planet, or even talks about the environment. i can concur on this. there was no real mention of this at the debate this week, except for a couple of quick mumbles about 'green collar jobs'
he wants to see a people powered campaign ready to jump in when he does.-
i can only say- :patriot: reporting for duty.

they say count on it. he will probably wait til after the nobels. he couldn't say anything in the run up to live earth, because there were so many 501's involved who would have been in big trouble if he had been a candidate.
and besides, this endless campaign crap is, well, crap.

26. The endless campaign crap really is crap. I think

people would be very glad to have another choice and Gore is the only other choice I can think of. He has much better qualifications than the "top tier." It's rather ironic that the men with the most years of government experience are the "bottom tier." Not pretty enough, I suppose.

24. Probably the best advice I can give is to
pick up his Assault on Reason. He recognizes that healthcare, NAFTA and other corporate interests have undermined what has made this democracy strong in the past. His ideas and platform has moved forward with the times and you will find his book to be very informative that way.

I think there are clear indications he is considering a run. I don't think he's very pleased that despite all his efforts, the DEM candidates are not addressing the climate crisis in any meaningful way other than they have plans for addressing it with alternative energy ideas or carbon taxes. I think he will hit the wall with that frustration this September/October and announce his candidacy.

And like Kucinich, he is a selfless advocate for the people.

How'd I do? :)

27. You did very well.

:-)

I just read today at the Daily Howler that the NY Times has finally admitted that Naomi Wolf did NOT tell Al Gore to wear earth tones. The Howler posted it on 7/29 and has referred to it in subsequent articles but I just caught it today since I usually read about a week of the Howler at a time, rather than Daily. (Hmm, I guess the name implies I should read it daiy, doesn't it? Oh well.)

As the Howler says:

EIGHT YEARS TOO LATE!!!

NEW YORK TIMES CORRECTION (7/29/07): An article last Sunday about politicians' choice of clothing while campaigning referred incorrectly to the role of Naomi Wolf in Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. She was a consultant on women's issues and outreach to young voters; she was not Mr. Gore's image consultant and was not involved in his decision to wear earth-toned clothing.

Maureen Dowd was one of the worst about the Naomi Wolf thing, claimed Wolf told women to "get in touch with their inner slut" in one of her books, but that's fiction, too, just like "Naomi is teaching Al to be an Alpha male."

19. Me me me me me me me!
I absolutely believe that Al Gore really "gets it", he understands what's going on and what the stakes are, he's one of us, he's on our side.

Not only would Democrats fall all over ourselves to support him, but independents and a lot of disgruntled Republicans would vote for him.

He won once. He can win again. This time, we'll be forewarned and prepared to prevent another election theft.

Gore is someone I'd go out and work my butt off to support because I really believe in him. Any of the current candidates, I'd support because they'd be the vessel to move the cause forward. It's a completely different level of commitment.

I've signed all the petitions. I've donated to the draft campaign. I wear the t-shirt. I've had the bumper sticker on my car for months.

I'm trying not to turn blue in the face, or bang my head against the wall, or start crying. Please, Al, run!

I saw the U of Iowa poll listed 43% of Iowa democrats were "very satisfied" with the candidates already in the race. Makes me wonder if the other 56% would be "very satisfied" if Gore entered. ;)
