Is it just me or does this language sound familiar?
the following excerpt is from a press conference Gore did in 1997.

QUESTION: Mr. Vice President, if there's nothing coy about the year 2000, anyone who expects to run for president in 2000 has to start very early thinking about money. Predecessors of yours have started PACs, political action committees or fund raising arms.

What are you going to do between now and 19...

GORE: I've made no decision about that whatsoever. And I really am focused on my work as vice president and doing everything I can to help this president.

If the time comes when I become a candidate, I'll be glad to answer such questions and talk about such matters at that time. But we're not there yet. Yes?

QUESTION: So you're going to raise no money at all? You will raise no money at all for a political action committee or anything else that would...

GORE: I have not set up a political action committee, and I've made no decision to do so. Whether I will in the future or not, I really haven't decided.

What I see: Al stays on message. He wasn't using this press conference to push his own candidacy, he was doing it to defend himself and he stayed on message. He pushed aside any idea that he would run.

Currently, most of his appearances are for environmental purposes and he responds the same way he did back in 1997: I'm here to talk about the climate crisis, I will not talk about my own political plans because it will distract from the climate crisis.

What do you guys think? Do these previous statement sound familiar?

6. Me too
I can't remember how or why I stumbled on that particular article but I was struck by the language he used. It was like deja vu all over again.

2. yes and remember that in '03

4. Yes, he went on nationwide television
because there was speculation about whether or not he would run. He made a very public pronouncement to put all the speculation to rest.

5. That's what I'm talking about
when he's focused on something he doesn't waiver. Just because he says he's working on "A" doesn't mean he won't do "B". All it means is that he is working on "A" right now and he'll get to "B" and work on it when he's ready.

I also like the confidence he displayed when he was questioned about fund raising. Even then, they wanted him to declare and start raising money before he was ready. He knew then and he knows now that the money is there.

7. You are a treasure to have found this!
There's that feeling again - hope.

Yes, it does sound very familar.

Btw, in December 2002, Gore announced he would not run for president. He then endorsed Howard Dean.

9. My reaction was the opposite
I was ecstatic that he endorsed Dean. I LOVED Dean. Still do, but that was then.

Now I believe Al is the only person that has the solutions and integrity to guide us through the dangers we face.

10. I meant the leak and the 60 Minutes interview
As for Dean, I was a Dean delegate that was elected after Dean dropped out. Our local DFA was determined not to give up on what Dean stood for and wanted to be represented at the convention.
