Article in NYTImes about Gore joining firm. Also an intersting read.
<I'm going to quote the paragraphs I found interesting,not the first three. Please read the whole thing>

Investment Firm Names Gore as a Partner
<snip>
...............
"Paul Kedrosky, a venture capitalist and author of the blog Infectious Greed, said that Mr. Gore’s new role could benefit start-up companies by providing guidance through the political process.

<snip>

“Anyone who thinks this is happening because Al has fantastic clean-tech entrepreneurial chops is fooling themselves,” Mr. Kedrosky said. Alternative energy “is a policy issue, a political issue, and that requires connections to get things done.”

Mr. Gore “is a political rainmaker,” Mr. Kedrosky said. The association between Kleiner and Mr. Gore “just means that clean tech is an inherently political exercise.”"

Last sentence:

"“I don’t expect to be a candidate again,” he said."

1. More from a different article.Dkos diary.

Article quoted...is not available to me.
From the San Jose Mercury News:

"But Monday's announcement would seem to have little to do with political affiliation. Gore has said repeatedly he's not interested in running for president again.

San Jose State University's Larry Gerston said Gore's relationship with Kleiner Perkins probably has few political implications. Only if there is a logjam among Democratic contenders next March after the primaries could it be politically significant.

'If, under those extraordinary circumstances, party leaders come to him, then ties to all the big sources of money such as Kleiner Perkins would be invaluable,' Gerston said. 'Just don't bet the ranch on that scenario.' "
