Halloween the Wiccan way

Ursula Perry does not worship the devil or fly on a broom. But she is a Wiccan, a member of a loose-knit pagan community.

A mother of four who lives outside Angels Camp, Perry says she has practiced pagan rituals — from blessing her garden to celebrating the change of seasons — for most of her life, forming a strong attachment to the natural world.

"It makes me feel grounded, tied to the earth," said the 50-year-old Perry of her practices, which she does not call a religion.

"I think that everything we do is tied to the moon and tides and the sun," she continued. "It's our spirituality. Other people go to church ... but it's more fulfilling for us to sit under a tree and think."
