Viking Women Had Bra Fashion Shows

VIKING women wore bras and staged fireside fashion shows to show off colourful new designs.

Archaeologist Annika Larsson says a find at Sweden's oldest Viking settlement, Birka, proves the first bras were designed to give lift and shape.

But they were banned by killjoy Christians who regarded them as pagan.

the Merry Rose (the e-mail list for the SCA Kingdom of Atlantia) and another one which claims that these bras were metal (shades of Chicks in Chainmail!). I got to talk to a friend of mine yesterday at our baronial business meeting about it as well. According to my friend, who is very knowledgeable about the Vikings in general and the textile evidence from the dig at Birka in particular, some scholars think that some of the items recovered from the dig may be being misinterpreted. Apparently there is a major textile and costumes conference coming up soon where Ms. Larrson will be presenting her data and many of us with an interest in Viking costume or want to be accurate in our garb are waiting with baited breathe. It will be very interesting to see her artifacts, read her conclusions and see what counter-evidence is introduced as refutation.
