"Starbucks stirs things up with a God quote on cups"

Ah, the fun never stops!

"Coffee drinkers could get a spiritual jolt with their java in the spring when Starbucks begins putting a God-filled quote from the Rev. Rick Warren, author of the mega-selling The Purpose-Driven Life, on its cups."

The Rev. Rick Warren is doing this to challenge a quotation about evolution inculded in the series.

I also posted this because I noticed the other day that eggs I bought had a Jesus fish on the carton.

Many businessed are promoting their Christian faith these days. I also noticed a construction company with a big Jesus fish on their advertisements.

Imagine how in-your-face they'd be about their faith if they weren't!

because the Starbucks that recently opened in my town is farther down the street than the local mom & pop coffee company that just have a crazed-looking cowboy and a dumb slogan on their cups. The Starbucks is already the target of boycotters and vandals.

I'd rather drink Hardee's coffee than go to Starbucks. They can print whatever they want on their cups, their coffee will still suck.

Those poor folks who had to throw away those ruined beans until Spendyerbucks started buying them up...

Burnt beans, brewed over a Peat fire, and stirred with a charred Oak stick for EXTRA "Flavour".

In "Venti", "Muy Grande", "Betchur gonna be pissing till lunchtime", and "OH MY FUCKING GAWD!" sizes....

That sounds like Starbucks to me.

They also sneak Bible verses onto their napkins. You have to be looking pretty hard to find them.

On the other hand, In-N-Out is one of the most progressive businesses in California. They are family-owned, and have refused millions of dollars to franchise their chain nationally. The family owners want to retain control of their quality and liberal employment policies.

How good is their food? So good that they got a rave review from the author of "Fast Food Nation," who's certainly no fan of the industry. Watch the DVD of "Super Size Me" and you'll catch the review in the Special Features, when Morgan Spurlock interviews the author.

Everything is made fresh as it's ordered. This is easy to prove, since the employees work behind glass walls and you watch them preparing your Double-Double, fries and milkshake.

As for employment, there's always a waiting list of people wanting to work there, even at the lowest level. In-N-Out pays good wages, provides benefits, and promotes from within strictly on merit.

I can put up with a few Bible verses in exchange for that, I think.

I was reading some stock picker bloviating (my new favorite word) in print about how so-super Starbucks was as a stock because of their strong brand. I had only seen a few Starbucks when traveling, and had never been to Starbucks, despite being a regular coffee drinker. I just did not see what was so appealing about some soggy looking made-up-mythical lady.

I think I had Starbucks once in my lifetime.

But my post was about how companies are advertisting their faith along with their business.

It's funny - the night I started this thread, my mom got ribs from a carry-out place for dinner. The box had "John 3:16" on it! Weird how stuff likes that happens, hehe.

To be honest, it doesn't really bother me. As long as the business is ethical and the food/product is good, I'll keep doing business with em.

But no, my ribs weren't that good!

Losing me as a customer won't hurt their bottom line. But it makes me feel better.
