Three interesting BBC articles on religion

"How religion defines America"

snip:

The USA is a very religious society. Evidence abounds demonstrating Americans' deep and abiding religious convictions.

A Gallup Poll released in November 2003 found that six out of ten Americans said that religion was "very important" in their lives.

In contrast, in Canada and the United Kingdom, two societies often perceived as quite similar to the United States, only 28% and 17% respectively described religion as similarly important in their lives.

"UK among most secular nations"

snip:

Those willing to die for their God, or their beliefs, included more than 90% in Indonesia and Nigeria, and 71% in Lebanon and the US.

Among Israelis only 37% were willing to take this ultimate step, and only 19% of Britons, 29% of whom said the world would be more peaceful without beliefs in God. Very few people in other countries agreed with this.

(snip)

In Nigeria, Indonesia and Lebanon more than 90% of people said their God was the only true God. In Israel the figure was 70%, but it fell to 31% among Britons.

"Why Britain doesn't go to church"

Here is the part that is interesting to me, as contrasted to here in the USA:

"Even here in Britain, it is mainly the conservative Evangelical churches which buck the trend of decline, continuing to fill the pews, while more liberal churches decline."

The liberal, secular people in Europe just don't see the point at all. Like myself.
