Why I am NOT donating to DU during the current fund raising event

Because of the NEW RULES



I posted an item about the Atheists in Foxholes event (In support of the military) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5319844 that was moved to the R&T forum by a mod, Skinner eventually moved it back to GD. But not before it died.

Then I posted an update before I went to sleep and EVERY comment but one was removed, including 2 recommendations for the Greatest Page. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=5329961&mesg_id=5329961

A bit peeved, right now, and just had to express that sentiment.

I don't remember anything inflamatory being posted in there. I can see why you're angry.

Even on a pretty left leading forum here Atheists are still a minor minority :(

You have to distinguish between people who post a lot in the Atheists group and people who don't have any kind of god belief but don't talk about it much. If you include that latter group, you're talking 10% of the US population, and probably a significantly greater portion of registered DUers.

I'm not sure what constitutes a "minor minority" though.

I, too, share your concerns. But, IMHO, the unique good that DU promotes far outweighs this single negative.

In every single quarterly fund raising event since I registered at DU. I donated to Andy Stephenson. I subscribed to the Texas Iconoclast in support of Cindy Sheehan and their editorial stance against Shrub. I was the highest bidder on one of the Mardis Gras Masques to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. I did this because of reading, and being a member of, DU.

But, this time, I will not support DU. Not with funds, until they reverse the NEW RULES regarding posts about religion. I'm not one of those who get into flame wars in GD. I post my comments in this forum about religion v. atheism.

My initial post regarding a salute to Atheists in the Military was "alerted" on by someone, and I alerted back -stating that the post did have political ramifications - since atheists are pigeon holed by, well, most everyone.

I'm tempted to "alert" on every post in GD about news that regards religion. But, I won't.

Such, as those Home-Schooled christians, one of whom (allegedly) shot his (alleged) girlfriend's parents. Good xians, both of them, I'm sure.
