Wired: Atheist Game Asks Players To Kill Prophets
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 10:08 PM by Synnical

A University of Virginia graduate student is hard at work on a game that gives players a chance to "stop the spread of Christianity and Islam by murdering Abraham and the authors of the Bible, before beheading Muhammad," reports Virginia's WSLS television news.

While the report lacks crucial details -- the name of the title or its creator, for instance -- it does provide a phone interview with the man explaining his motivation for tackling such a controversial subject:

Atheists have never really had anything to speak for them like this. It’s the general atheist premise that the world might be a better place without some of those religions... It’s the idea of being able to go back in time and sort of nipping the problem in the bud.

The game's premise, not to mention its depiction of violence against widely revered religious figures, is guaranteed to drive intense levels of controversy. So much so that we're tempted to believe WSLS may have missed a crucial detail (either purposefully to drive ratings, or out of neglect).

Still, you can be sure we're looking into this further, if only to see for ourselves whether or not this game is actually as inflammatory as the news report makes it out to be.

Lack of embedding options prevents us from showing you the news report here, though it can be viewed by clicking over to the WSLS site linked below.

4. As a paranoid unbeliever, it occurred to me
that the game should really let you go back and kill the authors of those books.

Who knows if the prophets even existed?

6. This may be a response to a game
created by christians in which atheists and non-believers were prime targets. The game is called "Left Behind, Eternal Forces".
