We might have bumped into each other. This was a LONG time ago, like the early-to-mid 90's.

I don't know how long I was "active." I gradually got to yakking more in Usenet alt.atheism, and of course the web.

IRC could be a hoot, depending on who got Admin privileges. It was always gratifying to see some proselytizer barge in, and get booted off about 30 seconds later.

Do you remember the big war in alt.religion.$cientology...when the $camintologists thought they could just issue an "rm group" in any old way and the group would magically disappear?

Ah, the good old days...

7. Ah yes memories

I used to go by the name JaneGoodall and lurk in the Christian groups to see what they were up to. Once got exorcised by a pack of them because I kept asking troublesome questions.

The big rumble I recall was between the #atheism group and the JSDs (Jesussucksdick) group. Our agenda was to engage is honest and open debate while the JSDers just wanted to blast the believers and ridicule them. They kept trying to take over our group and would try to hack the IDs of the OPs.
