2. I suppose so
It's also so filled with self-righteousness and a sense of privilege.

3. To whose vitriol do you refer, David? The OPs?
I read this earlier today and was a bit confused as to why the OP felt the girl was trying to shove religion down his throat. Just because the story is set at Christmas, it doesn't make it a religious story - and Scrooge is simply a nasty, bitter old man. Trying to read a heavy dose of Christianity into that is stretching.

Really.

Sounded to me like the OP was being a grumpy arse and the girl was suggesting he get over himself. Nowt to do with religion - except in his own head.

Mountains, molehills, and inventing slights come to mind . . .

6. I understood his reaction
because I get annoyed, too, at society's default assumption that everyone is Christian or at least celebrates the Christian festivals -- and ought to and is a sourpuss if they don't.

However, I was referring to the nastiness throughout the thread, both in response to his OP and to the few who supported him.

7. I suppose, to me, that it wasn't a holiday thing that he was
reacting so badly toward - it was just general irritation with the season. It makes me cranky, too, especially all the rampant godliness popping out all over the place - but snapping at someone just because I'm cranky is unacceptable.

That said, it was a nasty thread and certainly suggests that this holiday season is going to be a doozy.

5. That guy was ana asshole.
The employee probably wanted to call him and asshole instead of scrooge but didn't want to risk her job. I would never do such a thing to an employee.
