WTF? (#1,459...)
This billboard doesn't make any sense to me. What am I missing? (No points to the first wise-ass who sez "Gawd!")

No, I DON'T believe, so I'm not gonna "just believe." Idiots.

(I found this at the Friendly Atheist site.)

faithfulness?

It seems to me that the oppostion to atheism isn't the unbelief--it's the expression of it that really rankles some people. So my interpretation is on two levels.

Explicitly: "Even if you don't believe in our god, front like you do, and our god will pretend not to notice you're just putting it on--because he's like that." Is what he is, and all.

And maybe more implicitly: "Please conform more nearly to the expectations of the dominant religious culture with at least token lip-service before you upset our authority."

2. I think this is a prime example
of theistic thinking. They just don't get atheism. They see atheism as anti-Christian; as if we believe in God, but just hate him, or want to live without a moral structure. I didn't leave faith because I hate God, or because I hate rules, or I was touched by a minister. There's no reason to believe; so I don't. Simple as that. And they just can't process it.

3. I think you are pretty close on your explanation
but I think its also indicative of theists FALSE belief that atheists are people who just haven't had a close "encounter" with God and that by going to church their eventually "learn better".

6. Perfectly understandable from a group that seriously put Pascal's Wager
forth as an acceptable argument. Apparently their imaginary friend either likes self-serving liars, or is easily duped.

7. So much of what comes from them
is just mindless cant, the sort of compulsory call and response you'd see in totalitarian societies. I'm glad the rest of us don't have to bother with that nonsense.

You: Evolution IS!

Me: Praise Darwin!

8. As brilliant as the GetGod.com billboards in my neighborhood
With all the money these fools part with, you'd think they could hire a real marketing team.

No pretensions here.
