So umm its atheists that have no morals?
I'm really tired of crooks and jackasses justifying illegal and sleazy behavior by saying "God forgives me!" "I'm a sinner and I'm sorry" crap!

In this case, its a truly sleazy politician from Prince Georges Country Maryland playing the God Card (Jack Johnson former county executive)

Yeah, being an out and out crook is okay because you mentioned God. I am so SICK of this. Michael Vick, David Vitter, etc etc...I hear all the time about how us godless liberals are horrid people with no ethics and yet over and over again some sleazy person talks about God and forgiveness as if these manipulative words can cancel out all sorts of bad behavior..theft, animal torture, infidelity etc etc.... I can't even really post this in R/T because this is a liberal democrat in a very liberal county and I fear the believers would make excuses for this. Me? I think this is a form of contempt for the intelligence of the voters in PG county a form of "they'll forgive me for my blatant theft if I say something godly". Worse is his wife (who was hiding cash in her bra) is still on the county council so this seems like a way to keep his wife in power too.....This really does irritate the shit out of me when I see it. Especially after all the stuff lately about how atheists need to do more charity to prove how caring and upstanding we are. AAAAAAAAARGH. :banghead:

1. Maybe they define morals as a belief in a god? nt

2. What my Christian relatives say
when an atheist does something good for others is that god is working through the atheist.

3. That sort of attitude pisses me off so much.
I can't count the number of times theists have attributed my successes or the fruits of my labor to "GAWD". It shouldn't bother me so much but I always feel like yelling "tell your damn god to keep his filthy fingers off my accomplishments!".

5. Well if you're good enough for god...
...maybe the religious relatives can STFU about it.

4. Yup, Sweetie and I have no morals.
I guess that explains all the bodies in the crawl space. (Do houses even have crawl spaces anymore?)

If only I could be as righteous as a priest (pastor, rabbi, whatever) who is paid to lie to his gullible congregation every week.

6. There is much less of this in the UK...
partly because we're more secular; partly because the predominant Christian denominations (Anglican and Catholic) do not tend to consider that we are saved through faith alone and that works are irrelevant.

But I do remember listening to a parody song about a televangelist, which included the lines:

"...if I say I believe, then to Heaven I'll go.
Though I steal all your money and run off with your wife,
If I say I believe, I'll have an Eternal Life!"
