anyone belong to "americans united" for separation of church & state?
i recently joined--heard berry lynn talking on randi rhodes show about a month ago--he was on again today and he was the guy who gave the l.a. times the tape of delay & frist talking about shutting down the courts.

randi made a fun little comment about if the church is gonna tell her how her tax dollars should be spent she wants to go into the church and tell them how they can spend their money.

i think that would only be fair, don't you?

1. absolutely
However, the catholic church is a top-down control hierarchy, though, not exactly democratic, so I don't expect Rhandi's suggestions would be well-received.

I joined 'Americans United for Separation of church & state' a few months ago- looks like a good group, and definately needed right now!!!!

2. I've been a member for many years
Great organization. They participate in law suits, try to educate clergymen about not endorsing candidates because of IRS rules, and have a good magazine.

Barry Lynn appears on various talk shows and is good at it. He even did one of those fake interviews for the Daily Show and seemed to be good-natured about it and to be enjoying himself.

They have a good website at www.au.org

I was a member for a few years and really enjoyed their newsletter. But I had to cut back on the number of organizations I was sending money to, and now it's just Amnesty International and the ACLU.

edited to add: They've always had a great record of infiltrating meetings of extremist Christians and reporting their schemes to the public.

6. I'm going to join them as soon as I have the money.
I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't post here, since I'm not an atheist/agnostic, but I just wanted to say a few things about this. First of all, this is a really good organization, and Barry Lynn is awesome! Secondly, this statement is hilarious: "if the church is gonna tell her how her tax dollars should be spent she wants to go into the church and tell them how they can spend their money." That sums it up nicely. The thing about right wing Christians is, they're totally cool with separation of church and state when it comes to taxing churches. In that case, separation of church and state is wonderful! But oh, when it comes to using government to impose their religion on people, then they don't like separation of church and state. It's bullshit.

7. As far as I'm concerned you're more than welcome to post in here.
Did you bring beer? We're running low.

Skinner's intro says "Although anyone is welcome to participate, the DU Atheists and Agnostics Group is a place where atheists and agnostics can engage in frank discussions about the effects of religion on politics, free of debate about the existence of a deity or deities."

Judging by your recent posts on DU, we share the same goals (the major one of course is kicking the reichwing neanderthals all the way back to their caves where they belong.)
