"Young Earth Creationist Position" -- why does it even bother me anymore?
Let me, my friends, tell you a story. (I'm having a bad Fundie day).

I work in a research laboratory. There are many post-docs who work with the researchers for a while and then must move on. Today, a post-doc from Poland came into my office and wanted me to read a job listing for a chemistry instructor position at something called Liberty College or University in VA. What he was confused about was the phrase "young earth creationist position".

Now, I know that it's a Baptist school and I'm not sayign they don't have the right to teach what they want but EGADS!!! What's the point of taking biology or chemistry if you're mind is really in that place? Sorry -- I just had to rant for a sec. :)

1. Not just a Baptist school!
That's Jerry Falwell's "school."

2. Crap -- are you kidding me?
I'm not up on my Fundie schools like I should be. I'd better warn that poor post-doc... :)

3. Here you go...
http://www.liberty.edu/

I see they are dedicating the "LaHaye Ice Center." I got excited for a minute there, until I realized it didn't mean Tim and Beverly LaHaye were being buried under a glacier...

4. It bothers you because ignorance is bad for the human race.
And because you care about the human race, thus making you a liberal.

"Young earth creationism" is all about abusing science to try and "prove" creationism, rather than letting science guide you to the correct answers (as it did with evolution, etc.).

When you've based your entire existence on the belief that a book written by uneducated desert nomads thousands of years ago is the LITERAL AND INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD™, you have to protect every card in the house or it will all come crashing down.

6. It's worse than just a Baptist School
It's Fallwell and Robertson, all the way. Read it and gag: http://www.liberty.edu/

There are a zillion of these little "bible" schools all over the south and midwest, all churning our Jesus lawyers and Jesus accountants who haven't a clue about anything but what Leviticus, Paul, and Calvin said.

It's really, really sad.
