Let me get this straight. The "Intelligent Designer" used evolution to create the species? But, but...

So apparently belief in a particular unsubstantiated origins theory is a requisite now for getting into heaven? Where is that in their holy book?

Anyway, as short as the letter is, it points to something I've never been able to figure out about the ID'ers. Do they only want any mention of evolution to be accompanied with "Well, some people think a god did this"? That's what he seems to be getting at with "Evolution is one of the basic premises of the Intelligent Designer."

If that's all they want, fine, let them have their fantasy. Whether a god is behind evolution makes no difference in how the physical process operates, which is all that's covered in science classes. But I think most of the creationists want something other than a full (but footnoted) explanation of evolutionary theory.
