Comcast Moving Sci Fi Channel to Digital Service
http://www.chicagotribune.com/technology/chi-050803comcast,1,4628888.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

<SNIP>
Comcast has come up with a plan for local fans of the increasingly popular Sci Fi Channel that only a stockholder could love.

In the name of what a spokeswoman for the cable operator calls "conformity," it's bucking Sci Fi next week from the basic tier where two-thirds of its local customers now find it to a more expensive digital service where the other third already gets it.

What crap!

1. looks like a plan...
...that only Comcast's competitors could love.

I've switched cable services based on what the basic cable line up offered, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to do so.

2. Been like that here as long as I can remember
Sci-Fi has been in the digital package here for years both in Pittsburgh, and before I moved back here, up in Boston as well. It was sort of annoying to me because most of the other channels were either crap, or stuff I just didn't watch.

After Sci-Fi Friday ended it's last season, we canceled the digital package, and then got it back for the new season. Maybe I'm cheap but if there isn't anything new on, i'm not paying 10 bucks a month just for the sci-fi channel.

I wonder if they have anythign to say about this. I'm sure ratings are higher if you're on basic rather than digital. Do the channels get money from Comcast to be on the digital level?

What would BSG's ratings be if it were on Basic across the country, or even on broadcast like NBC.
