Sex cult based on sci-fi novels uncovered in Northern England
File under "B" for "batshit crazy".

--------

A sex slavery cult based on a series of 1960s science fiction novels has been uncovered by police in Darlington.

Durham Police discovered the bizarre sect after raiding a home in the area, after receiving complaints that a woman was being held against her will.

But a spokesman said the Canadian was a willing participant and the other people involved were consenting adults.

The group, called Kaotians, follow the Chronicles of Gor novels which depict a society where women are dominated.

More, including further weird details:

-------

I think I've heard of those books, but have always dismissed them as worthless dross.

1. I've heard of these too
actually I remember seeing them on the shelves for quite a while in the 80's (must've been a resurge of interest). I remember reading a couple of back covers to see what all the fuss was about but was never impressed enough to cough up the 2 or 3 bucks to read one.

I guess the more ridiculous (in a bad way not the kind of good ridiculous you find in a Douglas Adams books) a story it is the more attractive it is to people like this to base their lives on.

2. Classic cheesy "men's adventure" fiction; there was a movie, too
I read a few of them in the eighth grade. Lots of sex, lots of violence, lots of inexplicable plotting and poor characterizations. Like romance novels with bloody entrails.

There was a movie, too.
