12. Is that the txt-shorthand for "syphilis"?
:P

Because it's certainly not for Sisyphus, other than what they are doing to the station...

4. You Know What They Need?
MORE WRESTLING! :sarcasm:

Seriously, WTF does wrestling have to do w/ the SciFi channel? I never got that...

5. Well, let's face facts
Aside from (arguably) Battlestar Galactica, The Sci-Fi Channel has absolutely no good programming whatsoever. None. Oh, you'll get reruns of old series now and then, some of which are somewhat watchable, but the rest of the channel just plain sucks.

6. For a while, I had some hope...
that they might do for SF what HBO did for television writing with shows such as the Sopranos, six feet under, etc.

No such luck. Maybe some day, with more ambitious management.

7. SCI FI became dead to me with the cancelation of G vs E
That show was great.

8. If they had ever understood their proper role in the universe...
they would have picked up Firefly and let Whedon go to town. But I must stop, it is too painful to think of.

I've never been able to understand how a channel supposedly dedicated to science fiction acts as if their understanding of science fiction is at the level of bad made-for-tv movies. Even from a business model perspective, I don't get it. That niche was filled a long time ago.

They seem to take stabs at really interesting stuff, but it doesn't last. Maybe there just isn't a sufficiently large demographic of people who get it?

13. First, all corporate-run entertainment strives to market to
the lowest common denominator, no matter what. It may take them ten years to do it, but do it they must.

Second, once you have lowered the bar to the stupidest level, you can "spread the wealth." NBC owns SyFy(lis) as well as a slew of other cable channels. I've watched a little of the Chiller channel and found them airing those movies from "The Most Stupidest Night on Television" so either they are another NBC property or they live to become like SyFy(lis) in the future.

Name any cable channel, other than the pay-channels like HBO, that has the same quality of programming today as it did when it started. I can't think of any at the moment, so that doesn't mean there might not be one or two left with some programming scruples. I just highly doubt it ;)

10. agreed
other than BSG there is nothing on Sci Fi OR SyFY worth watching other than an occasional Dr Who or Torchwood re run.

calling it SyFy is just stupid

14. Mine too, I like Eureka, getting to know Warehouse 13
catching up on stuff I totally missed like Invasion, All Souls, Haunted, missed episodes of Lost and Dr. Who. Change of name means nothing to me.
