Frank Darabont developing "The Walking Dead" for AMC.
There was a time when certain networks exclusively aired 'classic' television shows and movies. Those days seem to be slowly coming to an end as channel after channel begins to air 'new' programing. Such is the case with TV Land, which began as a network that showed only reruns of popular oldies, and now AMC (American Movie Classics) has jumped on board with their series "Mad Men".

"Mad Men" has proved to be a huge success for AMC, which is now looking to continue the series popularity with a slate of new programing. One of the network's biggest draws is it's yearly Halloween movie festival called "Monster Fest", which recently became "Fear Fest", that is undoubtedly the inspiration for the network developing it's own horror series.

"The Walking Dead" follows a group of survivors after an apocalyptic event turns people into zombies. The group is led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, who tries relentlessly to find a safe place to live.

2. Ugh! Zombies. Never liked them. Too slow. Just wear sneakers and you'll be fine.
Now vampires on the other hand. There's sex in involved.

True Blood is the best fantasy show ever produced IMHO. Not just vampires, but changelings, fairies(not known in the narrative yet), Maenads, wherewolves, voodoo witch doctors, Christian fundies... It's got it all! Like Harry Potter with fucking and profanity.

Vampire movies usually don't work for me, and the ones that do have no sexual overtones (Nightwatch/Daywatch, Nosferatu, Shadow of the Vampire, Near Dark, etc). And the old Hammer Studios Dracula movies with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are a blast. I absolutely love horror, especially classic horror, and yet the Bela Lugosi Dracula never interested me. The Langella remake was decent, and that played up the sexual aspect a lot. Overall though, they just don't bite me. :)

I am very looking forward to seeing the movie Thirst by the same director as Oldboy. So far, everyone who has talked about loved it.

I don't have cable, but everyone is talking about True Blood, so I'm guessing it's doing something right.

I tell you what works for me with the slow zombies. They never stop, ever, until they eat you or they die. Sure, you can run, but why you rest to catch your breath they just keep coming. They never sleep, they never need recharging (they don't eat you for energy), they only need one thing...your brains! The way the never stop and never give up is a metaphor for death itself, which there is no escaping.

Slow zombies are entirely unique. Fast zombies could be replaced by creatures, alien or otherwise, and the story would basically work exactly the same. I don't mind movies that use them, but I'll talk the slow, shuffling, endless hordes any day. :)

3. If it follows the comic closely
then it will rank up there with the best zombie films ever made.
