"West Wing" -- The Cold

No other observations other than I thought it was really well done. But I do have one question -- maybe someone out there knows the answer. What is the song that is playing at the beginning of the episode when they get the poll numbers and Josh and Donna FINALLY kiss? It's so catchy I keep rewinding the tape just to hear it.

I loved that show. Once I saw Leo in the hotel room with Josh and DOnna I got all sad. I am going to cry during that funeral show. I am not much of a crier for TV shows, but I really feel like I lost a father figure type of friend. It is so wierd to have a character die because the actor who plays him die. It makes the character's death seem more real.

The episode was well done. The need to bring the candidates in to explain what was happening was typical Bartlett. Bushie would never do it.

I loved Leo and Bartlett talking one last time. I knew it was their last conversation.

I am anxious to see how the election plays out. The nuke plant thing would probably not have as big an impact in reality, but they needed a reason to make this close. I don't think a pro-choice republican from CA could possibly lose the election, but this is TV.

...usually I like to be surprised, but with The West Wing I want to know what's coming so I can be prepared. Without saying too much, the episodes about Leo will be tough to watch.

John Spencer really was the core of that show. It is really sad to watch this season because you can definitely tell that he was ill.

I changed my sigline here to a Leo McGarry quote, partly because I've always liked the quote, but also out of respect and appreciation of a job well done.

He was such a force. He reminded me of the dem that I want to be. After the Clinton crap and the impeachment, I was so tired. that show kicked me in the ass and got me back on my feet. Albeit for nothign since the chimp stole 2000, but I still credit Leo and John Spencer for getting me on my feet.

I am also considering getting involved somewhat in politics, and I have to give TWW full credit. I did a little bit of work for Kerry in 2004, but with family and job it's been difficult to find time, let alone get adequately up to speed on issues (which is why I'll be spending more time here on DU). I've gone to part time, my kids will be busy most of the summer, and there is one state race I may become active in, as well as a Senate race this fall.

One of the DVD collections (forget which season) has an interview with Sorkin. He is so right when he says that there is NO reason why real-life politics cannot reflect the values and idealism of TWW. There are at least two of us here who are living proof.

I thought he looked ill when Leo had his heart attack but I thought maybe it was good make-up (and great acting!) However, now I can't help but wonder if someone who knew him could have insisted that he see a doctor and maybe prevent his death.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but it's so frustrating. I have a good friend who had never had any symptoms (or ignored the ones he had) and thought he had the flu. After a weekend of not being able to breathe when he laid down, he drove himself to the hospital and found out he was in congestive heart failure. After a quad bypass and eight weeks recovery, he's back at work and looking younger and healthier than ever. He's about Mr. Spencer's age, too. I'm happy for my friend but sad that no one saw it coming with our beloved John. :cry:

Is it OVER..Unfortunately, I missed most of the recent shows.......How did it end?

And they haven't shown the one where Leo dies, though that may be next week. The previews showed President Bartlett getting news of historical significance -- assume that refers to a VP presidential candidate dying.

The last two shows had mostly to do with the last few weeks of the campaign and how the two camps are handling it. Santos has pulled even with Vinnick, largely due to a nuclear accident in California -- Vinnick had been on the record saying how safe nuclear energy is. Then last night, Vinnick's campaign manager found Santos' briefcase and went through it. He discovered that Santos has been making monthly payments to a single woman with a child who he had hired when he was mayor of Houston. Vinnick doesn't want to use that information against Santos because he doesn't want to campaign that way. But he lectures Santos about it when he gives him back the briefcase, saying that it WILL come out and could ruin his presidency if he should win. Santos replies that the child belongs to his brother and he was supporting the child because his brother is a deadbeat who couldn't be trusted to do it if Santos gave him the money directly. Vinnick doesn't seem to believe him (so we're not sure if we are supposed to believe him either, I think.)

i'm just glad i don't have to wait another 3 months to catch the next one. it's neat to see them start tying up loose ends. it is almost like they knew this was going to be the last season and decided on tying everything up before it's over. so does josh go up to donna's room?

i sure hope so, i've been rooting for them for the longest time. however if it happened prior to this season i think the relationship would have spoiled an ongoing subplot. the romantic tension between josh and donna always kept me on my toes. i'm hoping that they finally get together though.

Something kind of similar happened with one of my co-workers, at a conference -- only it wasn't a key, but her phone number, which she'd written on the back of a pamphlet. The person with her (not me, luckily! Though it could well have been ...), in an effort to be helpful, scooped up all the materials and brought them to her office.

(She did manage to get in touch with the guy again ... they were both presenters, so their e-mail addresses were included in the conference publication.)
