Survivor Samoa - Episode 6 - The Other Russell
I hate it when health takes out players. I was sorry to see The Other Russell join the ranks of the fallen. I will say that this show still packs in emotion as my wife outwardly cried and I choked back emotion seeing Russell beg to stay in the game. He is what I consider to be a good man. I am sorry you went out this way. You did not play a great game, but you did give it your all.

Onto the show. SociopathicRussell is just plain crazy. There are in a damn hurican and he is talking likes its a sun shower on main street. He goes for a swim when its turrential rain. I love this guy. Jaison, well you are leting me down. Your Ivy League background did not give you heart. I loved his reference to Captain Planet, I loved that show as a kid. He is right, the team has no heart. Russel is right, if you don’t throw up after every challenge, or at least fell like you should, then you are doing something wrong.

I loved the idea to for reward challenge. The sphere was cool. It was a great idea. Turns out teh only bad idea was Russell not listenign to Dave and sittign out. Now lets give props to the ladies in the balls. Liz ricked and Laura was amazing. Of course Foa Foa was winning when Russell went down. Its only just the way their luck has been. Russell looked bad the whole time. I swear I though he had a heart attack. He looked real bad. HE passed out two times, maybe three. When his eyes were open, I thought he was dead.

Now, HOLY SHIT, ITS ON!!! The game play got REAL good last night. Galu's men stepped up and started ot play Survivor. They realized that Shambo is their hole card. they can usse her but not let her have any power. Of course they have to start to let her in soon or else they will get turned on, but its ON!!! Meanwhile, the ladies are not holding back. They go right after Shambo, which plays right into the guys hands. when Monica went after Shambo for writing her name down at Tribal, she basically played John's game plan out. I give John big respect for changign the game. His comments abnout the power of three and the Monica/Laura alliance were right on the money. It was great to finally see some serious thought about the game. Although that crap with Eric, John and Shambo about who to vote for looked faked. I wonder if a producer set that up?

At Foa Foa, Liz has to know that she was dead the way they were treating her. The guys there must know they can control Natalie way more than her. Hopefully SociopathicRussel does not have the total control he thinks he does, or this will get real boring. But since they spent so little time on this, thought for sure Liz was goign home.

Tribal was fun because they were all there. Again, think SociopathicRussel was the only one playing. His words were careful and appear well chosen to show loyalty to his team but not to offend the others. HE let Mick do the offending, which puts him in a great position come merge.

Overall, sad to see a good guy g down to a medical issue, but it resulted in some GREAT gameplay.

1. I found myself finally somewhat agreeing with the sociopath
While it's easy for a guy with plenty of insulation to sit and make fun of the others who are freezing, I have to agree that these people just sitting and shivering in the rain really are pathetic. You'd think after 19 seasons people would learn to watch all the available episodes of Survivorman or Man vs Wild or other similar survival shows. There is absolutely NO reason that they couldn't have built a very good rainproof shelter! Do they not notice all the palm fronds and other large leaves etc all over the place? They could have done this on day one. Even day two or three. It's pathetic. That anyone can still go on that show without doing even the least bit of real research is just sad.

As for the other Russell, he really ticked me off when he sent Shambo twice in a row to the other tribe, especially when she had competed in the food comp that she was then deprived of. I lost all respect for him then, and all I was thinking was that karma is a bitch. Too bad for him, but I'm glad Jeff made the call to take him out. I thought he had a stroke or something.

Those balls were making me dizzy, even just thinking about it makes me dizzy.

2. As a guy with plenty of insulation
it still gets cold and wet in the rain. That guy is just hard. He knows mind over matter and lives it. He convinces himself to do it and does it. I think he is a dick and I'd probably pop him if I ever met him, but man he is fun to watch on TV.

On the shelter, its basic construction. The way shingles work. you start at the bottom and build up so the drip hit teh next layer and do not find seems. Its hard, but it works. The should be weaving palms basket style to make shingles. Its work,. but if you do it right away, life is way easier.

4. I agree! They don't seem to think about previous seasons...
And shelter is just second to fire so you think they'd spend a heckava lot of time getting it right at the beginning. It's the rain that always makes them weak and lose sleep.

And I thought it was horribly mean of Russell to exclude Shambo even IF she did the things he said. I figure she must be far more annoying than they show. I didn't want to believe he was just being spiteful! But yeah, maybe he'll have time now to think about that.

3. After seeing Russell go home and what the rest of the cast went through
I think it's pretty lame and irresponsilbe that the producers were going to reward them with pizza.

How about some tarps? Some raincoats?

Russell was not weak or skinny or sickly. It's getting downright dangerous to leave people to the elements like that -- pruned and totally white skin on their hands and feet is dangerous.

I suppose, though, that if they did that, they'd be admitting the ones who didn't win the challenge and the tarp or the coats, are in physical danger.

I really like this show. But I watch it to see life at camp, the reward and immunity challenges and tribal council -- not to see people falling like flies from the conditions. I think it is a cool, good part of the show that they have no ammenities and must feed themselves, but this season is showing it's going to far and interrupting the entertainment value of the show.
